Local PR Firm and Web Designer Assisting African Orphanage
"African Massage" T-shirts support Uganda AIDS victims
June 15,2009-Kansas City, MO - INK inc. Public Relations announced today that it was completing a special project for the Bwindi Orphanage in Uganda, Africa, that will enable the orphanage to raise funds through the sale of special T-shirts to tourists visiting the area. Designed by Dave Stewart, Propaganda3, the T-shirts humorously portrays the travel experience of INK principal, Dick Grove and his wife, Teresa, on their recent African journey to the Bwindi Impenetrable Forest to see the endangered mountain gorillas. The Bwindi Orphanage is located within the forest near the border of Uganda and the Republic of Congo.
"The road from the city of Kampala, Uganada, to Bwindi was just about the worst, most bumpy ride of my life...fourteen hours of potholes and deep muddy ruts...from dawn until dusk," said Grove. "What our driver and guide had nicknamed , "The African Massage!" "However at the end of this terrible road," Grove continued,"is this beautiful small village where this incredible orphanage is located populated by kids orphaned by AIDS and political strife."
Grove said the idea for the T-shirt as a fundraising project came to them after being given a special musical concert by the orphanage children at the end of a day trekking to see the mountain gorillas. "The kids need the help and we thought it would be a fun way for tourists that make that long trip to remember it," added Grove.
INK inc. is sending a small sample of the T-shirts to Bwindi to test market. If as successful as anticipated, INK will then assist in setting up a manufacturer in Uganda to supply the T-shirts direct for sale. "We're all doing this pro-bono to provide a few extra dollars to help those kids, and provide a laugh to those tourists making that miserable trip," said Grove.
